Dr. Marti Manyalich, along with other Spanish and Japanese experts, attended the international symposium “Organ donation and transplants, the potential of the Spanish model” held at the Instituto Cervantes in Tokyo. Dr. Manyalich and Beatriz Dominguez-Gil, from ONT, explained how the Spanish model of organ donation has had such great success internationally.
Presenting an explanation on how the Spanish model can be a great success in Japan. Already the Spanish model has shown promise in Japan. Dr. Manyalich explained that in 2006 Dr. Manabu Saito traveled to Barcelona to study a TPM Advanced Course in organ donation and transplantation. When returning to Japan, he spread the Spanish model to a group of islands in the south of Japan, where they saw an increase in donors.
Instituto Cervantes in Tokio counts with a partnership with the ONT to ensure a global spread of the Spanish Model. The symposium took place January 24th and 25th 2022.
