DTI attends TTS Congress 2022

DTI Foundation took part in the hybrid 29th International Congress of The Transplantation Society (TTS 2022) during September 11th to 14th.

Our team of experts had the pleasure of assisting to the Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and present the newest courses and educational methodology in stands N7 and N8 in the main hall.

Many people have joined us in our stand to give a shot at an augmented reality simulation. They were able to see a Controlled DCD patient and guidelines on how to manage a controlled DCD donor with normothermic regional perfusion.

Thanks to the opportunity The Transplantation Society gave us, DTI experts started by presenting at a Pre-Congress Workshop (Improving donation practices for better transplant system) that consisted of four different activities:

  • General introduction to organ donation.
  • Donor Detection and evaluation: participants played Game of donors and entered the virtual reality hospital to practice the selection and evaluation of donors.
  • Brain death and donor management: participants dealt with real case clinical scenarios.
  • Family approach for organ donation: participants practiced through VR how to break bad news to the family and how to approach organ donation consent.

This activity was possible thanks to the participation of Alejandro Nino Murcia (Colombia), Gabriel Gondolesi (Argentina) and Marcelo Cantarovich (Canada). Other international experts that participated were Marco Sacchi (Italy). Marián Irazábal (Spain), Omid Ghobadi (Iran) and Chloë Ballesté (Spain).

During the congress our Director of International Cooperation and Development, Chloë Ballesté, presented the final results of the ODISSeA project. She also had two more presentations to present the Tissue Banking and Advanced Therapies Training Program and another one to present the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organ, Tissues and Cells.

The head of Educational Programs, Carmen Blanco, did an amazing presentation explaining 30 years of TPM Training, its first steps until VR activities. Dr. Ali Al Obaidli summarized the key aspects of the UAE organ donation model and its current organ donation results during the campfire session in the TTS Congress 2022. This initiative is developed by SEHA with the support of international DTI experts. The Campfire sessions ended with Marián Irazábal talking about I-DTI, a second opinion platform.

The Congress was a great opportunity. We want to thank The Transplantation Society for the great organization.
