In September, Guangzhou the capital of the Guangdong province hosted the 1st Intermediate Training course in Transplant Procurement Management (TPM).
On the morning of the 3rd the open ceremony day, the group of international DTI experts had the opportunity to visit the Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University. During the visit they were accompanied by Dr Yongguang Liu, OPO director while exchanging experiences with doctors and nurses from A&E, ICU, PICU and the OPO. They had the chance to discuss first-hand the organ donation program specially in A&E and ICU as they are the units with the highest organ donation potential.
The course open ceremony in the afternoon was attended by Mr. Segundo García Fernández, the Spanish Vice-consul in the Guangdong province, Professor Wang Quian, president of the Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Professor Changshen Feng, Professor Qifa Ye director of the transplant program in the Wuhan province, members of the Guangdong Branch Red Cross Society of China and numerous dignitaries.
During the next three days the DTI international experts from Spain, Iran, Belgium and Italy joined by a group of excellent local experts shared their knowledge and expertise with the 52 participants from the Guangdong province.
The ultimate goal of the TPM courses is to improve the organ donation rate through increasing the proficiency of the health care professionals.
