DTI Foundation is collaborating with the SCOT (Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation) in a project sponsored by the Ministry of Health of KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). This 3-year program aims to implement a quality management system to increase deceased the donation rate.
Within this framework, an in-situ diagnosis study visit was organized last December 10-14 in KSA lead by Dr. Martí Manyalich (DTI president), Dr. José Luís Escalante (project director), Dr. Francesco Procaccio (ICU expert), Mr. Estephan Arredondo (project coordinator) and supported by SCOT experts. This visit included meetings with the Ministry of Health of KSA and medical experts at different hospitals in the cities of Riyadh and Jeddah to analyze the global situation of the country in terms of organ donation.
As a result of these encounters, some areas of improvement were detected and recommendations were pesented to the Ministry of Health as part of the quality report.
The next phase of the project will involve the implementation of quality indicators in six hospitals affiliated to the SCOT through an IT tool based on the successful model ODEQUS (Organ Donation European Quality System).
